I like the common cat, people shouldn’t be obsessed with breeds. But if you’re asking for it, I guess I’d have to say Norwegian Forest, since my first and most beloved cat’s mother was a NF. My cat, Lili, got the majority of the breed’s traces, and she was absolutely gorgeous.
We have a super cool, and beautiful Norwegian Forest Cat mix at the Humane Society. He is amazing and still waiting for a home. He follows me around like a dog, and talks like a cat.

What really gets me is that some of those pictures are from Wikipedia and associated with certain breeds *facepalm*
I always look at it as there will always be “cat people” and “dog people” as well as “OMG I LOOVE ALL ANIMALS UNDER THE SUN!!!” No one animal is better than the other, you just have your personal preferences.
I believe there are way more cat breeds than there are dog breeds. I had to do a entire feline classification once for biology. We just often don’t call cats by their breed. Plus there are always new ones. Like I have 3 cats, but I don’t know them by breed. In basic, i have 2 American longhairs and 1 American shorthair.
Look up at the links I posted, I think you’ll find the reverse. More dog breeds than cat.

Your dog may have a genetic disease where the skull is too small for the brain.
It may start barking, whining, limping, thrashing on the floor uncontrollably while yelping. It is incurable and present in 95% of the breed.

In addition to many pedigree breeds, Kittehs and Goggies both come in mixed breeds (moggies for Kittehs & mongrels for Goggies).

Well it’s hard to argue with you when it’s impossible to tell what you’re saying. I think you’re saying, a cat you own woke you up for work and the other four were sleeping with you in bed. And that you’ve never seen a dog do that.
My dog usually wakes me up for work, this generally means sniffing my face; followed by getting on the bed, going underneath the covers, laying on my back and licking my neck. I’ll also point out that dogs were routinely used as bed warmers by their masters in medeival times.
My favourite breed of dog is Boxer. However I quite like the looks of the Boston terriers now. Also, I became more familiar in the last few years with Chihuahuas because a friend has a few of them. But the breed doesn’t matter too much actually, I like all of them

I luvs em all…..I haz a Giant German Spitz, a Burmese, a Manx, two kittehs of imdefurminite pedigree an a Beagle. All are good kittehs.

So what the author means is he or she is woefully uneducated, or perhaps deliberately ignorant, when it comes to cats.
Persian, Siamese, Ragdoll, Abyssinian, Balanese,, Bengel, Savannah, Bombay, Cornish Rex, Havanah, Japanese Bobtail, Maine Coon, Russian Blue, Scottish Fold, Sphynx…each one as distinct as any dog breed.

This is Oscarmum – sorry to disapopint Lolcatz, but NO so-called ‘breed’ of dog or cat means anything – it’s all long-term genetic modification by humans and many cats and dogs and other domestic animals suffer because of the inbreedingthat is part of that modification. Heck, I’m boring! Anyone would think animal health and happiness were important or something.
There are quite a few breeds (some would say majority) that given proper breeding are not prone to diseases and genetic defects caused because of the manipulation of the breed. A weird example is the German Shepard. The working dog version is quite a healthy dog, but the show dog version is under criticism by kennel clubs because the breeding causes increased issues with their hips (working variety have straight backs, show dogs have a sloped back).

My American Short Hair cat is smarter than all your dogs put together, cats don’t have to be “trained” like dogs do, they already know what to do!
I love Cats and Dogs. For me I prefer larger dog breeds and as for cats I love them all!!! And the person who thinks cat people tend to be ugly. Really? I don’t think so. It is simply a personal preference. Me personally as long as it’s not a small yippy dog I’m happy. However lot’s of people like small dogs. I don’t think there all ugly people.

I have a Russian Blue-ish type (non-pedigree) and a Calico (non-pedigree)(both rescues). I also have a grand-dog Japanese Chin (very pedigree) and a grand-cat Maine Coon (rescue, non-pedigree). I love them all equally! Oh, yes, and then there’s my daughter….some pedigree going back to a castle in Ireland!
People care about dog breeds, because without those dogs are worthless. Cats need no breeds, because they’re all beautiful and graceful =).
Hmmmm, as much as I lubs Pekingese, my personal vote goes to Persian kittehs…..

I don’t think most people would say that dogs are “better” because they know more of the breeds. Dog breeds are just more varied and easily identifiable than cat breeds are. I can’t tell a Boston terrier from a French bulldog, but I won’t confuse them with a pug.
But many purebred dogs have health problems because of it the inbreeding necessary to keep them pure.
And I know from personal experience that no one calls them dachshunds — because no one can pronounce it.

Cats DO have breeds. Dogs only need to be recognized by their breeds because they are too boring and stupid to be seen for what they are. Cats, on the other hand, are beautiful, smart, and graceful. Whoever made this accusation is a jerk.
So, you’re saying that dogs are better just because they’ve been manipullated by humans to conform certain aesthetic preferences? Quite a lame argument, IMHO.
