Extremly cute, but perhaps it’s not a brilliant idea to teach a puppy it’s okay to gnaw on fingers.

Never reinfoce a behavior that won’t be cute when it’s full grown, or a behavior which could harm a child, or become dangerous in a situation where the dog is excited or agitated.

Finger nibbling, with a child or baby, when the dog is excited, and possibly jumping, or if the dog gets startled, leads to a possibly hurt, or very scared child, who can develop a life long fear, or hatered of dogs, and problems for you and your dog later, such as a neighbour who makes it a campain to force you to get rid of your dog.

I know this from experience, and watched a neighbour have to give up their dog over this kind of inconsistant training. Encouraging, or allowing the dog to greet people by jumping up on them, eat food that is given to them under the table etc can cause similar problems.

Puppy finger gnawing is SOOO cute… and it feels so neat…. but training an older dog out of it, is SOOO difficult and needlessly time consuming. Please always be consistant with your animals, they will learn much faster, and because they will know how to please you, they will do so, happily, and both of you will reap the rewards.

Thanks for loving your animals. I know you always want the best for them.

Okay then, looks like P.E.T.A. is trolling again.

      • aroo says:

I don’t think z is a PETA troll at all (and I am not z). I don’t like PETA, and I had the same thought that the cute finger chewing could become a problem, though maybe z hammered a little hard on it.

      • Errant Mist says:

You my friend have NOT read a P.E.T.A. troll on this site if you think of z’s post as one.
I loved the adorable video but have similar misgivings of teaching any aged dog it’s ok to bite. It’s just too dangerous to out way any cute it might represent.

      • Clawed Monet says:

Why is it these days that every time some one offers some good advice on dogs, suddenly they are P.E.T.A. trolling? Z didn’t say a thing that made me think P.E.T.A. I work at a Vets office and we deal with behavioral problems all the time. A good number of them were caused by the owner engaging in behaviors like this. This dog may never have a problem with biting, many don’t. Some dogs DO. How do you know which one you have? Isn’t it better to be sensible at the get go?

    • Siirenias says:

On the contrary, I like dogs that never forget how to play bite. It’s easy to teach a dog what a play bite and a non-play bite is, and which is acceptable. However, this kind of training might be a bit less safe for some breeds than others…corgis aren’t on the “dangerous” list :D

      • Furthea says:

Play-biting is fine IF you know how to teach the dog the difference. My mother’s sheltie, who is a rescue, play bites when we rile him up. It’s not something we trained, but as he knows how to keep the biting as light play-mouthing we let him keep the habit of it.

I was just afwicted wif cooteness pwoximity. IT’S ADOWABLE! PUPPEE PUPPEE PUPPEE PUPPEE PUUUUPPEEEEEE!

  6. a says:

I don’t like PETA either, but i agree with z.
Corgis are naturally a bit nippy as is part of their background for being a herding dog, so definitely not something you want to enforce.
Worst case: Then you have a nippy dog –> bites guests –> abandon dog –> sad dog –> sad ending

    • Jami says:

Or if the dog is a reported biter, animal control takes them away and puts them to sleep. :-(

Always teach your dogs to not bite.

      • Manbitesdog says:

Err… in my book this “chewing on hand” is part of pretty normal playing with your dog. I mean, I played this with grown-up Newfoundlands and they never bit someone in their whole life. o_O

  7. R says:

I agree with Z, but i love the cute puppeh ! i want one exactly like it!! :p haha.. but yeah Z is very right…. we had to do that with our old puppeh.. very sad.. :/

  8. Penelopi says:

As extremely cute as this is, and omg my head asploded wif cyootness, don’t let your puppy nom on you. because then you’ll have a dog that wants to nom on you. And that tends to not be as cute.

    also, PINK PAWS!!! D’AWWWW! :D

  9. acpw says:

Mai nu hewmin – him gotz a flaybur!

  10. Jeny says:

    corrrrgggggiiiiiiii

    *head asplode*

  11. Lizity says:

Cute in terms of a puppy but cute in terms of a corgi, not so much. As the owner two corgis the floppy ears are a turn off.

    • Matt says:

as then owner, then, you should know that all corgi ears are floppy as puppies and they’ll grow out of it. therefore, i rule still cute as a puppy AND in terms of a corgi.

      • Lizity says:

That puppy is at least over 6 weeks old. Corgi puppies ears should be standing by 4 weeks at the latest. I got Duckie when she was 6 weeks and her ears were standing and when I picked her out at 4 weeks they were too. Goose I got when he was 8 weeks and same deal, his where standing at 4 weeks when I picked him out before I brought him home. Two different breeders.

  12. john says:

I say let your puppy nom on you!

  13. Lisa says:

Chaaarlieee! Charlie bit my finger! And IT HURT! :D

  14. Xear says:

Nom Nom Nom! Puppeh ish Happeh!

(Great to know the complain community found this video)

  15. Cindy says:

If the purpose of looking at cute videos is to criticize the shape of the dogs’ ears, then you would be better served checking out the AKC website. Really, folks, this is supposed to be light and fun and entertaining and cute! Some of us own purebreds which are not the breed standard, but who love our dogs because they have pure, real, personalities and hearts. Therein lies at least at least 80 % of the beauty, and if all you can see are floppy ears, then you are missing out!
