According to their breed standard, this is exactly how these dogs should look. Impressive and gorgeous pair of well taken care of dogs.
And – in my 10 years of experience in dog rescue – people who fight their dogs don’t care enough to post pics of them on cutesy websites like this one. These dogs are beloved pets, imo.
These look quite a bit too wide to be perfect examples of their breed, but otherwise I agree.
Err, ignore my other post. I hadn’t heard of Presa Canarios before. They do look quite standard for their breed.

Sorry to break the news to you but just because its a bully breed that has clipped ears does NOT mean its a fighting dog. Get your head out of your rear. My pit bull does not have clipped ears, has never been a fighting dog, and is almost as strong. Its called exercise… its amazing what it can do.
actually these are cesar milan’s dogs; Junior and Daddy. Ever see the Dog Whisperer? Daddy is a rescue and Junior is his heir.
No, that’s not Daddy. It looks nothing like Daddy. The gray one looks a lot like Junior, but the brown one is not Daddy. Daddy has a different face, white paws, white tip on his tail, not a black muzzle.
Last I checked, Junior didn’t have his ears clipped and, since the last time I actually saw a picture of him, he was about 5 or 6 months old (way past when you would normally clip a dog’s ears), I really don’t think these are the dogs you are looking for.
Plus, the tan pittie doesn’t look old enough to be Daddy.
Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. I’d be interested to find out that Cesar Millan clipped the ears of any dog, let alone one that old.
Also, Daddy was not a rescue. He was given as a gift by the rapper Redman to the Millan family since they took care of him for most of his life (when Redman was touring/otherwise engaged and couldn’t) and he seemed happy with them.
I don’t mean for this post to be snarky or rude, so I apologize if it comes across as such – I’ve just worked a 12 hour day off of 3 hours of sleep, lol.

Also a lot of people have them clipped because they think that’s how they’re “supposed’ to be. And not everyone that looks like you think would be fighting their dogs actually are. Pit bulls are popular as status symbols like that too – even if they’re not actually being fought.
That said, they’re my favorite kinds of dogs because they have such a bad rap and I want to help turn that around, and rescue them.
I see no signs of scarring that would be evident on dogs that have been used for fighting.
Are you kidding me? Fighting dogs are generally more rangy, and most fighting dogs have scars, and evidence of combat. Really, when was the last time you saw a pugilist without cauliflower ears or a broken nose. Your powers of observation are sadly lacking.
Shows what little you know about Ptties. I had two gorgeous girls, litter mates. I had ears clipped on one due to a deformity. They were actually colored just like these two beauties…one brindle, but my red was a red red nose. They were just as muscular as these two, simply from living on the farm, and hanging out.
Why does no one assume that a Great Dane whose ears have been clipped is a fighting dog? Or a Boxer? It is a cosmetic change, which are made to a lot of different breeds (tails clipped, ears clipped, hey…dew claws removed). The uninformed should keep their biased opinions to themselves.

I doubt they are fighting dogs. They look healthy and there isnt a mark on them. Many of my friends have pitbulls and/or breed them and the males (and even sometimes the females!) come out looking very muscular when they are grown. It’s genetics. As for the ear and tail cropping, I dont agree with it, but it’s still favored that the owner has this done to be competative in dog shows, unfortunately.
FWIW, there are Presa Canarios.

“Pit bull” has kind of come to be the catch-all term for any dog that looks like an APBT, or like you said, presa canario, or a mix of any of the above – even boxers or bull terriers.
Which is sad, because they more often use that term out of ignorance when taking peoples beloved family pets away to put them down because they’re dangerous dogs and they “Look like pit bulls”….
So adorable and gentle-looking, they will catch burglars off guard! Too bad some donkey decided to crop their ears. (and tail, can’t tell from the pic.) A real dog lover knows their best friends look best UNALTERED! (spaying/neutering is the only exception, help prevent homeless goggies!)
Hehe, I have a couple in one of my training classes with an unaltered female Doberman (with, of course, the exception of her spay surgery) and almost every time they are in the store, someone asks, ‘Oh, is this a Doberman mix?’ I feel so sorry for them because she’s gorgeous and perfect and no one believes she is what she is.
I have a Dobe myself. Undoubtedly the sweetest dog I ever owned. However, he was bought to look intimidating, and an un-cropped doberman is one of the least intimidating dogs you can find. >.<
Personally I have little problem with the procedure as long as it is done by a professional and the aftercare is done properly. Although I definitely think it's completely unnecessary in dogs that are meant to be family pets.

Ditto on the cocker. I was actually dogsitting and had earlier been feeding the dogs out of my hands (they didn’t want to eat from their bowls because they missed mommy blahblahblah) and I come back and all the spaniel wants to do is bite me. The gigantic mastiff mutt was fine, of course.
Cocker spaniels can be very bad. I knew of one who attacked a man so bad, he had to have 4 surgeries on his leg! Still needs a cane too. The dogs destroyed the tendons on the back of his knee, the knee cap, muscle, all within moments. All 20 or so odd pit bull types I have known all my life? NOT ONE BITE!

The point that you seem to be so intent on missing is that all breeds of dogs, including mixed breeds, have the potential to bite if they are not well trained or socialized. The statistics on dog bites clearly shows that you are more likely to be bitten by a small dog breed than the larger breeds.

Also, if you really look into it, the most common breed type to be used for blood sports are terriers in competitive ratting and baiting. I would like to see you try to ban someone’s West Highland White or Wiener Dog, because those vicious mutts were originally bred to kill rodents and badgers.

On the other hand, I do have two German Shepherd dog who are certified with Therapy Dog International.

Pits are gorgeous, wonderful dogs – I have a rescue pit and she is the sweetest angel on the planet (she’s secretly my favorite, but don’t tell my other pets!). What I meant was that these dogs appear to have been trained for fighting – and that’s not cute to me. Cropped ears and HUGE muscles like these are generally tell-tale signs. For their sake, I truly hope these guys are rescues and that they are in a safe, loving environment.
You may be right, but you may also be wrong. I can understand trying to raise awarness and explaning what you suspect, but if all you do is spread fear, that doesn’t help the dogs.

That might be only a matter of wording but I think it makes a difference. You can say that a lot of fighting dogs can look like that with cropped years and muscular build but it’s not a given from that alone…that’s all I ment by that
If you look up Cesar Millan’s website, you’ll find that these dogs are his. The lighter brown one is Daddy, given to Cesar when the pup was 4 months old. The other is Junior, I’m not sure if he’s one of Daddy’s get or not, but you can read Daddy’s bio on the website. These dogs help train other dogs to be calm. They’re very muscular because of all the exercise that Cesar does with them. They are definitely not fighting dogs!

Again, cropping a dogs ears does NOT mean it is being fought. Those dogs are well cared for, stunning, without a scar to be seen. And unlike some of you internet expert, I have personally worked with more bully breeds than you will ever see in your life. Do they have higher prey drive and lower discomfort thresholds? Yes. Are they powerful? Yes. Are they dangerous in the hands of a responsible educated owner? No. I’ve been chewed up by chocolate labs and lhasa apsos with stupid owners. Its the people who are dangerous, not the breed. Self educate before you spew stupidity from your mouth.
I agree 99%. I live just outside of Detroit (literally across the street), so it’s more standard for dogs with cropped ears to be bred for fighting. My perspective might be a little bit different simply because of the environment around me. I do agree eleventy billion percent that it is the OWNER responsible for their dog’s behavior, and that breeds should not be punished because of it.
As someone pointed out above, your wording is just a bit off: dogs with cropped ears are not bred for fighting – dogs bred for fighting get their ears cropped.
It is a minor, but extremely important, difference.

They were originally bred to haul butcher’s meat carts, and defend them from wild animals. Those two responsibilities required mass, strength, and most important obedience. Rotts are very smart and patient, when properly trained. Just because stupid humans decide to train their Rotts to be overly aggressive does not mean all Rotts are dangerous. I have known many owners of this breed with children. All but one, the Rott died of old age without a single attack. The one rogue Rott was 12 years old, and had developed dementia.
The APBT has the same reputation, and for the same reason. The breed has changed since their original purpose (bull-baiting) was banned.

I was bitten by one dog as a child; a sweet little fluffy cocka-poo. (And I earned it fair and square). I have since met many “power breeds” belonging to responsible owners that were all calm, well balanced animals. 99.99% of the time, the DOG is not the problem.

I personally haven’t had much experience with APBTs, but the little bit i have had, had nothing to do from fighting, but more along the lines of seeing the results of abusive owners mistreating thier dogs. Their reputation surprises me, as all the pits I have come across have shown to be sweet, gentle creatures.

I’ve talked with a couple of people who had been abducted by little gray men. They TOLD me that there was this big beam of light, and (all of a sudden) they were on some alien vessel undergoing all sorts of tests!

I agree with B. My cousin has TWO pit bulls. One is a brindle who is just as sweet as can be. She has NEVER hurt anyone, and never would, unless you physically threaten her owner. The other is a white pit bull, and he’s less than a year old. Also, goofier ‘n shit, but harmless. Those pit-haters among you, get lost. Breeding doesn’t make mean dogs, stupid owners make mean dogs.

My neighbour has one of these ‘beasts’ and all i can say is that is that he is the biggest ‘lap dog’ i have ever seen seen, all he wants is cuddles and to sit on your lap, bit difficult when he weighs about 120 pounds! He is the product of his owners, loving and fun. nuff said
Is true. I fostered a rescued pit for a while, and the biggest problem we had was that he wanted to sit in my lap whenever I sat down. The young woman who adopted him reports that he loves having his teeth brushed. I’ve always been afraid of pits, but it broke my heart to lose him, even knowing he was a foster and would leave us and was going to a great home.

I have a mixed APBT & he has never shown agression. It all depends on the owner & how they are raised. He is my baby & is also a therapy dog at my grandmothers’ nursing home. They are NOT assault weapons. BAN THE DEED NOT THE BREED

This is the exact reason why I- and a lot of other people- are totally freaked out by pit bulls. I don’t care how nice you say they are, this animal scares the crap out of me.
Spend a little time with one and I guarantee you’ll change your mind. My mother was terrified of the breed when my sister rescued one, and now she says she can’t imagine her life without one.
I, on the other hand, never gave the breed much thought before Mama (my sister’s Pittie). Then again, I was very much a cat person before that. If you’d have asked me what breed of dog I wanted, I would have said, ‘Siamese’.
My sister’s Pit, and the pups she whelped almost exactly two months after she rescued her, are what made me into a dog person and not only led me to my career (dog trainer), but gave me my best friend in all the world – my Annabelle Lee.

My dad despised pitbulls, and when I adopted my first one, he fell in love. And what’s REALLY weird is he and my mom want me to bring her by every other weekend, like a grandchild. She literally spends the weekend with my parents…. Well I have two pitbulls now, they both are considered my “kids”. Trust me, there are NO bad dogs just BAD OWNERS. And everyone who was anti-pitbull, that have met my two beautiful pittys, have changed their views.

I am a registered Democrat and am very socially liberal. One of my dogs is an Pit/Akita mix who I adopted from the local humane society.
I vote liberal, live in an apartment and own no guns. I do, however, own a Pit/Lab mix and a Pit/Basset Hound mix.

Umm, I don’t hide behind my Pits, they hide behind me. And my ‘big, vicious dog’ currently weighs in at about 50 lbs. and stands about 2′ or less at the withers. Trust me, that is not a big dog.
But, wait, you want death to any dog that weighs more than 30 lbs., right? Well, there go the St. Bernards, the Newfies, the Danes and all of the other gentle giants.

You actually just gave me an awesome idea for my girls’ costumes this Halloween! I’m not normally one for humiliating dogs and dressing them up, but my Annabelle and Persephone were born the day before Halloween, so it’s hard to resist!
So, both my girls are totally going as trash for Halloween! Not the literal kind, but the human kind. The only problem I have is that I have no idea what ‘Again’ looks like, so how am I supposed to recreate that?

I’m actually LOLing here as I read these comments – my vicious attack “killer” pit is snoring, curled up in my husbands lap, dreaming of whatever it is that dogs dream about, and answers to the name of McFuzzy. He’s currently training to be a Therapy Dog and loves EVERYONE. While my lab is sleeping next to him, thinking of all the small children she can munch on if they wander too close to the fence. She’s currently in classes to socialize her and help her get over her fears of people so that she can be in a room with a man and not want to chew his face off.
Not a doubt in my mind which dog needs to be on a leash when the cable guy comes – and it’s NOT my pit.
Gorgeous babies! These dogs are clearly not “fighting” dogs. I dont agree with clipping ears, but some people still prefer that look. These guys have no scars, gorgeous coats bespeaking some probably very expensive dog food, and FYI- my girl has muscle tone like that and the most work she does is walking from the couch to the yard to potty

It is sad the ignorance abounding. It really is. But I’m not surprised. People fear what they don’t understand, and people as a whole are too lazy to open their minds and hearts to the thought that “hey, maybe there are bad apples of EVERY walk of life, as well as good and upstanding examples too.” Shame really. I admit I was like this ‘Again’ troll at one point in time. But my eyes were opened and now, I don’t know what I’d do without my dog. As a Nurse, somedays are worse than others with what I see — but she’s always been there to make me laugh and smile. If I hadn’t been willing to meet responsible owners of these dogs, go to rescues, do research… I’d have missed out on my best friend.
I know there are those who hate these dogs with a passion and I won’t ever change their mind. And I’m sorry for that, truly I am. But I am also sorry that I won’t let anyone hurt my best friend. So while you write letters in support of banning. I write in support of tougher and more stringent punishments for those owners of any dog who allow their animal to hurt another.
You know, I never understood the automatic hatred of an entire breed of dogs. I’ve met more Chihuahuas I haven’t liked than those I have, but I still approach every new Chi as a potential friend. I just don’t get how some people make that leap, you know?

Meh, some people like the look. Some people also do it because when showing a dog, if their ears don’t sit properly on their head, they can possibly not rank as high. If their ears are clipped, this is avoided.

Hey Again, how about you and I compare our dog training notes? I’ve been a professional all breed trainer specializing in behavioral problems for about 10 years now. I have scars a plenty from being bit, and interestingly enough, not one if from a bully breed. I’m not saying they’re all cupcakes, a good plenty of them are certainly not, but any dog is dangerous in the hands of a moron, so I guess its a good thing you don’t have one of those, huh?
The last child that got mutilated by a dog in our county was an infant boy who had is genitalia eaten off by the family DACHSUND while the father and his GF were passed out drunk.

as a nurse who has done my rounds in the ER, I can tell you first hand that I’ve seen more children injured from their parents (broken limbs, burns, head injuries, etc) and their parents’ irresponsibility and lack of intelligence than i EVER have of kids coming in severely injured by a dog like this.
Also, FYI, if a child comes in and has a gash from a dogs claw/s that haven’t been clipped, and all that’s required for treatment is a washout and bandage — on the medical forms, it’s still inputed as a ‘dog attack’. and THAT’S where all these websites get their ‘data’ from. Hospital records. take that into consideration next time you’re spouting statistics.
