This is too funny! It’s so funny that I forgot to type in LOLspeak! Thanks for the video! Now I can go to sleep happy! g’night!

  2. ana says:

    it’s cruel not funny.

    • blah says:

The dog was obviously not bothered and didn’t even flinch. Get real.

    • acamori says:

It would only be cruel if the dog was intentionally blinded. Being born blind and still being happy, healthy and active is more inspiring if you ask me.

      • Stup1dg33kz says:

Yeah. I know a min pin that was born with one eye, and it’s doin’ JUUUUUUUUUSSSTTTTTT fine. Also, lay off the language. Kids go on this site.

    • Leah says:

the (honestly) stupid dog that would not catch obviously was not bothered if thats what you mean. actually, thats what my dog does and he does not get hurt in any way. and if you are talking about the fact that the first dog was blind, it is not cruel because first, it was born blind, second, it seemed to be enjoying the catch, and third, its smart enough to be able to know how to catch a ball even tho it cant see it. now i dont know about you, but it would make me pretty happy if i could do things that some dogs with no disabilities can’t do. so think again smart

    • TheSaintOfPain says:

      Cruel? Quit being retarded.

    • Ingrid says:

Give it a rest. This dog is happy and the family that has her did a wonderful, thing adopting her and letting her live like a regular dog. Frankly, if she could have a litter of pups, I would be first in line to take one or two, you snob.

  3. maxon says:

Dogs don’t need good eyesight – as long as they have a nose, they do just fine. What a fine animal!

  4. RankMyTyping says:

stop throwing stuff at your dogs face. ruuuuuuuuuuuude

  5. Judson says:

“That’s a good boy! Yes, yer a good boy!”

  6. sopranomom says:

Readyyyyyy? Catch! *thunk* HA HA HA Great vid! :D

  7. Em says:

    aww, poor jack, faildog.

  8. bryan says:

Good riddle! My own puppy clapped for him (ok, not really, but I imagined he would have). Someone cares about him and didn’t just throw him on the street. That’s what’s really important. Though the other dog is a little jealous, I think.

    • BAReFOOt says:

Well, as long as he does not reproduce.

You know, that evolutionary, it is bad, to support the faulty and weak. But hey, it is hard to understand this, if your own species is making ist crippes and retards the kings that need special everything, right?

      • Mer says:

Absolutely! And you and your brothers and sisters in the MR community are an absolute inspiration to the rest of us.

      • CottlestonPie says:

I hope you don’t reproduce, either.

      • diandra128 says:

Barefoot…”crippes” & “retards” ? Why shouldn’t people with special needs (and pets too) be given every advantage and the help they need to have productive lives? Do you have children? I sure pity any child born to you that might be not quite perfect. Maybe you should just remove yourself from the gene pool so you don’t have to take that chance. Jerk. Insensitive jerk at that.

        • Psarah says:

Jerks aren’t normally insensitive? That’s news to me.

        • leeesha says:

You both (Barefoot and Dianadra128) have a point. Speaking in terms of evolution, the dog, or human “cripples” for that matter, shouldn’t reproduce if the disability is genetic (Maybe i should stress that I’m not saying the dog’s blindness is genetic, because I do not know). But adding in the human factor of emotion is what decides whether or not allowing reproduction is right, or humane, if you will. On that note, humans look for a strong genetic match for reprodiction so that their offspring won’t be weak. So that argument could easily take on the one supporting emotion.
And I would like to mention to diandra128.. Barefoot was simply saying the dog shouldn’t reproduce. Not that Riddle couldn’t live a happy and productive life. And I don’t know about you, but I don’t count consider the two to go hand-in-hand.

          • cherokeekid says:

So you want to talk about genetics, well lets then.
What if the genes that causes there undesirable traits is an autosomal recessive disorder? Meaning that for an offspring to be afflicted with the condition they must gain two copies of the recessive allele. Now say that Riddle’s missing eye condition is a recessive disorder meaning Riddle has two defective copies, if Riddle has pups with a dog that has at least one dominant copy of the gene then at least part of the progeny (puppies) will be normal. Did you get all that leeesha? Since you are obviously a geneticist that must have been obvious to you right?

            • cherokeekid says:

And I used there instead of their. Hurray grammar.

              • Reziah says:

But it would still mean the pup has 1 copy of the gene, and so if their mate also has 1, it would again, lead to bad genetics in their offspring, so your point here is kind of self-defeating.

That said, it’s always a sight to see how well animals cope with disabilities. I know alot of people who mope and go all emo when they break a leg or something ‘Boo hoo, so useless’ but dogs just seem to go about their lives as best they can and are happy with it. That’s plain and simple resilience there.

            • Hullshaven says:

Sorta moot since no matter how much you know about genetics, Riddle is neutered, so he cannot procreate. LOL
All our rescue dogs are neutered/spayed to prevent more unwanted pups.
              Just sayin.

      • Neoillumine says:

Wow, this comment made it through “moderation” but my reply to it didn’t? Fantastic moderation here.

  9. JoMama says:

Too funny! I loved the expression on the second dog’s face, like “HUH? Uz wantz me to…OOF!”

  10. dahumanz says:

but when he throwed the ball to the dog with eyes, he was much nearer then before, i mean who could catch a ball if someone stand nose to nose to you?

    • Cat says:

agreed… she was standing on top of him practically.

Riddle’s very cool tho… owner fails!

      • MaNiC^ says:

Yeah, I mean who’s ever heard of a camera with a zoom function ^.^

      • Michael says:

I think she did that because she knew he wouldn’t catch it, and if she were farther away, it might be more likely to hurt him once it hit him.

      • Hullshaven says:

Actually I was exactly the same distance from both dogs. I have to be closer to Riddle to throw the ball, so my timing is right. It simply LOOks closer to Jack, because I was standing up, not sitting on a chair.
FYI, Jack now catches a ball. Jack and his brother were feral dogs, and were going to be killed. We saved them.

        • Melissa says:

Hullshaven – Thank you for being you! Thank you for taking in & taking care of the dogs you have! The world would be a much better place if more people cared about animals half as much as you seem to!!

        • Ingrid says:

Kudos to you Ms. Hullshaven. A border collie likes to be a working dog and he is happy to catch that ball. Bless you for taking that pup in. I rescued 3 Aussie mixes from Alabama because they were not purebreds, they were thrown by the side of the road to die. They are the most loving loyal and grateful dogs ever.

  11. Jenni says:

    awww so cute! clever doggies

  12. Lara says:

Aww, this is so cute, but so sad at the same time.
Riddles is a gorgeous and clever pup! He is truly exceptional!!!
    Jack is funny xD

I’m a sucker for Border Collies (I have one called Jack haha).

  13. Rubbar says:

maeks meh feel awl warmz insyde to c’s riddle do dat

  14. Arachna says:

nawt kwite lolable, but definitly kyoot.

  15. ryukage says:

Riddle seems to do just fine without his vision thanks to his sensations of sound, smell, touch, and taste. But these kinds of problems are the reason I’ll never look to own a purebred dog. Too much inbreeding.

    • Wombatish says:

“Purebred” Border Collie is half nonsense anyway. They’re one of the most ‘mixed’ purebreds out there.

But a genetic predisposition to blindness (not being born without eyes, but blindness) happens in many dogs, purebred or not. Good breeders actually do a bit of good by tracing the medical histories of their animals and pulling those with the disposition out of the gene pool and either just keeping them as a pet or substitute mother or rehoming them.

Not that I’m for breeding, mind you. Shelter dogs all the way, and overpopulation is bad! But if you’re going to do it, be responsible. It’s also not very fair to blame them for something that’s not their fault.

      • Psarah says:

But if people stopped breeding, wouldn’t the world eventually run out of dogs? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t support puppy farms, but I think responsible breeders aren’t in the wrong. ALL dogs need love, not just the mutts, and not just the purebreds.

      • Hullshaven says:

A Border Collie is a mix of breeds as is evey other breed out there. It is not nonsense to say Riddle is a purebred. I have 6 purebreds, 4 of which are rescues.
Riddle was born to a farmer who was going to kill him because of his lack of eyes.

  16. cosmicxcharlie says:

This is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Even the doggie that doesn’t catch so good is cute! Reminds me of my mom’s dog.

  17. Alleykitten says:

    Oh man… Poor jack XD

  18. Mary C says:

My friends border collie in Canada can not only catch but toss the ball back.

    • barboid says:

This is so cute! I had a dog, Sam, who would do that when he didn’t run away with the ball and start chewing it! He was part doxy, part fox terrier according to my dad. He was a true stray who chose our family for his forever home. He’d run away sometimes, but always be sleeping on the front porch by the time we’d get home. RIP Sammy!

    • Hullshaven says:

hahahaa AWESOME! I love Border Collies :)

    • Reziah says:

      =O.O=.
      Epic doggie!

  19. Sylmenya says:

My goggie had to have one eye removed a year after I adopted him, and he catches things remarkably well. I can’t imagine even catching things half the time like he does, if I had some vision but no depth perception. No eyes at all? I hope it never comes to that with my Max, but Riddles is amazing!

  20. Draewelyth says:

God bless Riddle. Its good that he is in a loving family and can live a happy life :)

@Jack, LOL, he is like “Wat? Ball? Where? Oh there..”

  21. Doragon says:

    Optical interface optional.
    Apparently sight is over rated.

  22. Michelle says:

okay, I know the second dog wasn’t bothered…but still, be careful not to throw it in his face.

  23. madiantin says:

    Hahahaha! Brilliant. =)

Give Riddle a kiss for being so dang smart, and Jack a kiss for the bonks on his head. Rofl, Jack was just NOT interested. =D

  24. D.R. says:

This is a cute dog. Havin’ such fun with Mom! :)

  25. kmj says:

    that was awesome!

  26. manwithnotime says:

Now that is funny. Vision capable dog is TOO thick. Blind dog is TOO clever.

  27. Lexi says:

I don’t know Riddle personally, but i know of him and i know his owner through mutual connections through the Border Collie Rescue community.

Riddle is an AMAZING rescued dog, born with no eyes who has morphed from a scared-out-of-his-mind state of anxiety into the fearless dog we know today.

He plays frisbee, swims, and runs like the wind. You can see more of hi here:

  28. Angie says:

Well done Riddle. What a clever doggie! His owner must be very proud. Poor Jack being overshadowed by his brother… funny though.

  29. Cathy says:

Like someone said, some dogs are just NOT interested in catching stuff:D When I was little, we had two doxie-like mutts who caught EVERYthing you threw and now, I have a purebred doxie who could care less about me throwing stuff:D Riddle is such a brave dog, hugs to him and Jack and all the other doggies :)

  30. Vyster says:

If I throw a ball to my dog he would destroy it D:

  31. Neoritter says:

LOL, nice. The second dog should be put on failblog :P

  32. Denise says:

It’s not cruel. We also had a dog born with no eyes. It’s called micro-opti-something. He loved to fetch sticks and dig for moles. Border collies NEED exercise. They get really depressed without it.

  33. sour says:

he plays by sense of smell!

  34. Hallberg says:

    0:40 was awesome!

  35. Abby says:

wow that is amazing i wonder if it was born to do that

  36. JaneGael says:

Wow, an amazing talent certainly brought out the trolls! I work with blind and partially sighted Veterans and pointed the ones who can see a little to this video to use as inspiration. You are only handicapped if you think you are. A dog who is born blind thinks everyone is like him, so he just enjoys life. Playing catch is fun, you can see the delight on his face. He’s expecting the ball and likes the positive feed back he gets. The other one isn’t interested and it doesn’t hurt to get bonked lightly with a tennis ball…been there…done that.

I rescue too and have 7 different breeds/mixes who are all disabled. For the idiot who doesn’t think they deserve a chance maybe my little pit bull who had the misfortune to belong to a soulmate of Mike Vick should have been left to die with a crushed skull. Instead she’s happy and doesn’t know she’s terribly brain damaged.

Thanks for posting this little video and showing people that a blind dog can have a happy life and do things too, they aren’t just pitiful wretches who should be put out of their misery.

  37. Mad3033 says:

That is so sweet that a caring family like this one would take tht dog in!
