That is very true *nodz* I gave my old dog Pip, a golden cocker spanial, loads of love and attention up until the day she passed away from cancer. She was 9 years old. I still miss her a lot

We just had to put down our 8 year old bearded collie because of cancer a-week-ago Tuesday. Sweet dog, but a bit pushy. Any time she saw food her eyes bugged out and she’d started batting at your ankles.
I just put down my 17 year old Chihuahua. Trusted friend since I was in kindergarten. I swear she could hear the fridge door opening from around the block!!
Looks a lot like me in the mornings! Good thing I can shine up like a brand new penny after a quick shower and shave!

I have a very elderly dog myself who I’ve had since he was a chewing-up-the-entire-house pup. He now is old and wise and is the best friend I have in the world. Right now, he’s sleeping right next to me. He too is gray all over his face. I was noticing last night that even his eyelashes are gray now.

Old dogs are GREAT. We adopted an oldie (half Bearded Collie, half hearthrug) when he was 12; he was PTS at the age of 14. We had two wonderful years with him, and he was such a lovely dog. Everybody remembers him. RIP, Clyde.

Aww- thankyou! He always made me think of a retired army colonel – he’d come swaggering up to the door to greet you and sit up waving his front paws at you until you grabbed him by the cheeks and dumped a kiss on top of his head. Then he’d “harrumph”, turn away and stalk off with a, “Well, really, madam – such an exhibition! Not very British, don’tcha know…”
angel duke came to me at 11, he was the model of perfect golden retriever. angel alex the wonder dog, was just perfect…i miss them still. and princess peanut is an happy 8 year old. puppies are fun, but there is a sweetness about sugar faced seniors….

I adopted a middle-aged dog a few years ago, he’s getting older now but he is still just as sweet and affectionate as he ever was. He was a shelter dog, there are so many still needing homes. Puppies are great and need love, too but there are a lot more older dogs out there that need homes & love than most people realize.
i agree, and most of the time they arealready house broken and calm. im not much for puppehs in my house. the dopted cats will eet them. love the older variety

I couldn’t have a dog anyway, as I live alone and dogs are such sociable beings! But there is something very special about a dog-companion. . .
awww my sheltie is 13 and has one foot in the grave, so we all let her get away with everything. we say “come” and she looks at us like “no. not today. lets just blame it on the arthritis. lets make a deal: you cook me a steak, i’ll come. ok? good” then she dances like a puppy whenever we’re cooking something. she’s my little fuzzy shadow, but she only has about a year left. im gonna miss her when she’s gone, but until then, she’s gonna get cuddled against her will every chance i get.

Yeah, I habe 2 old goggehs and a youngun, just 1 year old.
My oldest is 10 and the sekund is 6. Dey is mah babehs.
One is pure white “golden” lab, the other is chocolate lab/ German Shepherd mix. And my youngun is a maltypoo. He bees a kayootee.
