What I find hilarious is that there’s a Kong toy, specifically made for chewing, right next to the torn up book. Judging by the color, though, it’s the wrong strength for this guy. He definitely needs a red, or possibly black, Kong – not a puppy one (which is what he has).

No, it’s NOT irony. An ironic situation is when something happens that you would never expect. Clearly, if the owner bought a dog training book, then the dog had behavior issues, like tearing up books, for instance. So the fact that the disobedient dog chewed up a book (that just happens to be about obedience) is EXACTLY what you would expect to happen, and therefore, not ironic. It’s just called a “coincidence.”

I beg to differ with those (hrise1841, jane, etc) who believe dogs can’t make straight edges. Our FCR will lay on a book and pull with her teeth from side-to-side, thus making long shreds. All of them have straight edges.

Nah, if there’s one thing I’ve seen in my life it’s dog-torn-up books, and I saw a lot of edges like that. She puts one paw on the paper and pulls with her mouth, and it rips. This is fun enough to do over and over.

Our dog really *did* eat our brand new copy of Dog Training for Dummies. I came home from work and Max had ripped it to shreds and merrily flung the bits all over the house. It was one of those “I really should laugh at the horrible thing my child has done, but oh God is it funny” moments.

I got a book out of the library called “Taming your teenage dog”. I had lots of problems with my dog, but chewing things up was never one of them.

Until one morning I woke up to find that yes, of course, my dog had chewed up the dog training book. Dogs are smart little cookies. They can put two and two together.

Probably the most ironic about it, is that the smooth edges on the tears indicate that the dog didn’t actually chew up the book. I believe that qualifies as dramatic irony.
