Overwhelmed

Wow. Poor dog. That must be uncomfortable.
OMG – Poor doggie. This owner is killing this dog with kindness (by feeding it too much). My dog was overweight, and we BOTH went on a diet and we both feel so much better.
pore fing
poor thing
My beagle used to be that fat. She lost the pounds but it still affect her back even after.
sad…not lol
Yes, you are so right.
This picture breaks my heart. :*( Not at all LOL. Very saddening.
I agree with you completely, this is not at all funny. It’s sad that this dog will end up in tremendous pain before the end of his days, due to either back or leg problems. That poor baby.
dat’s goggie abuse D:
It IS abuse, not LOL at all. Someone needs to rescue this poor dog before it’s too late!
i don’t think anyone has laughed thus far, nor should they.
i have
and i want to roll it
I grew wit ya! I say keep feeding! Some a these comments, Huh! Where’s all this compassion when u c an obese human. My cat is HUGE, she’s SOOOO happy. If she was in pain I’d know. She’s 13 1/2 years, she drinks beer, and eats the dogs food. On the SLY ofcourse. I never over fed. In fact, under fed. My dog , fit as a fiddle. Food is this dogs heroin, let have his fix! That’s what will keep him going
How does this end up on the lol page when thousands of seriously funny lols are in desperate need a home? This seems more like an abuse awareness posting…
Maybe is why it got chosen.
Our little Heinz (terrier/chihuahua cross) was fed on table scraps for the first two years of his life. A dog not even a foot long, nose to the base of his tail, weighed close to 30 pounds. To save his life, his owners gave him to my dad. That summer, my brother and I made that poor dog walk with us every day to get the mail (we lived in the country, so had a 1/4 mile long lane to walk to the mailbox). In less than a year we had him down to a “trim” 17 lbs, and eventually had him down to 12. Vet would have preferred we break 10 pounds but still, the little guy had a new lease on life, and survived to be nearly seventeen years old (and died of old age, at home, with family). Never, ever, ever lost his love of hot dogs, though–if we weren’t watching him, he’d gulp one down WITHOUT CHEWING. Terrible ^^;;
Poor sweet pudge-puppy needs a walk, not a hot dog.
agreed. den as reward 4 sheddin pounds insted of fur he can has 1 hotdog. jus 1.
would doggie like…a wafer-thin mint?
its wafer thin!!
Okay – This, I laughed at.
Widedog takes offense at non-widedog captions
Longcat is long
Widedog is wide
The owner should be shot
If I could find the owner – I’d do it for you. Poor dog! I understand how hard it can be to keep their weight in line (One of my cats is diabetic). This, however, is definitely abuse!
I AGREE.
No excuse.
Whether the poor pooch has health issues that make him heavier or not, the owner shouldn’t be letting him get to such an unhealthy weight. Just totally irresponsible!
i’m glad to see most people agree with me. that dog is huge, he needs a diet
Poor googie – iz too fat. Hiz hooman iz an idiot.
This makes me so mad… what irresponsible owners. A person shouldn’t own a dog if they can’t attend to its health.
Sumhow luks liek Tweenkee…
LOL! dat is wun harey tweenkee.
You know what they say – “If your dog is overweight, YOU’RE not getting enough excercise!”
That’s depressing…
That’s just wrong. Poor thing probably can’t even walk.
I don’t feel like using LolSpeak here…
“Poor thing probably can’t even walk.” That’s what I worry about…gad! From looking at the white hairs on his/her muzzle, I think that’s a Sr. Citizen doggie, and it’s too late for diet and exercise to do any good. The owner should be locked up and force-fed until he explodes.
I was just thinking about turning in for the night, but I’m not going to be able to get that picture out of my mind very easily… Maybe I’ll read a Sneaky Pie and Rita Mae Brown mystery.
Looks a little like a Shiba Inu, so the white might actually just be natural markings. Still and all, it is a shame that the pup’s health has been so badly maintained. When we domesticate them we take on the responsibility of their care, and that includes making sure they eat well and get out for a run. Even if you don’t want to get your butt off the couch, *hire* someone to walk the dog, to take it to the leash-free park (if you have one), and give it a run. Something. Anything.
Um, walking is fine and well but do NOT take your dogs to dog parks! Any sensible vet will tell you that the majority of dogs there have NOT had all their shots. People do NOT pick up after their dogs. And your dog can get REALLY SICK AND DIE. Dog parks and leash free parks are BAD things for your dog. You’re better off training it to use a tredmill.
lol, have you ever been to a responsible park? You have to bring your papers to the ones in my county – spay/neuter papers or vet’s reason as to why not, rabies, Parvo, and other various innoculations, and you have to pick up after your dog or the owners will chase you out of the park.
Don’t generalise, kthanx.
As Crazy Emmersion says, not all dog parks are teh ebil. Where I live the leash-free park is heaven on earth for the dogs in the area; people around here are generally very responsible about keeping their pets’ shots up to date (because the dogs will get taken away if their licenses aren’t renewed, which they can’t be if they haven’t had their shots). The parks are kept clean by the city, and the poo gets picked up by (again) the responsible pet owners.
Anyone afraid to let their dog go is welcome to keep him/her on a leash and walk the pup elsewhere–but walk it, for the love of dog! Fresh air is something you won’t be getting on most treadmills, I think…
It’s never too late to go on a diet and exercise!!
Something so depressing doesn’t belong on a humor website.
SAD, not funny. You think the owner gets it yet?
Pleez 2 b adding new loldog ASAP so I noes haz 2 luk at dis! Sun iz out, lyfe iz gudz… an dis is gibing me da sad! Poor goggie….
that poor, poor doggie. allowing a dog to become so obese should be considered animal abuse.
Longcat holds no sway over the power of Widedog.
Owners should be fined, and dog confiscated and given to a better home.
Poor puppeh! I can only imagine the pain he must have in his hips and knees…
You know I grew up with slightly pudgy cats (seriously not morbidly obese just a pound or two heavy) and that I don’t mind. But that poor doggie makes me so sad.
I beg of you not to remove this non-LOL though. Maybe just link to some dog obesity info site or something? Maybe someone will come by for a lol and learn something.
Maybe, due to his age, he has health problems? I mean, we’re assuming that the owner is tourturing this poor doggie, but if you look at the surroundings in the photo, he is out, on a walk, in public.
Perhaps, olddoggie is old, and got fat? Or has arthritis and cannot run and jump and play, so gained weight? Overweight animals are not necessarily caused by overfeeding. Most often, owners are the last to realize. Or perhaps, owner realized and that is why olddoggie is on a walk?
I’m just saying – while at first glance it appears abusive, we shouldn’t become focused on the negative here – but use it as someone else said, an awareness – be careful and don’t over-feed your doggie. And if your doggie’s health has declined due to being old, and activity has decreased, cut back on the food.
You tired to make a solid defense – but NO – there are ways for him to lose weight. They need to speak to their vet to find other alternatives if this poor doggie if he is unable to walk. My dog has extremely bad arthritis in his knees and shoulders, also has severe hip dysphasia to the point where the vets cannot believe he can walk. We have a great vet, and we take him to a vet that specializes in acupuncture – which works wonders!! (he couldn’t make it up the stairs before the acupuncture) Along with the acupuncture, one mild pain pill a day and an anti-inflammatory med he is very happy doggie – he even chases squirrels! If this owner is out there, please contact your vet. If you are unable to pay for a vet. Talk to them, they might be able to help or point you to someone who is willing to help at no charge or a reduced fee. Otherwise contact a local resuce group or Humane Society and ask if they have any suggestions on who may be willing to help with the cost. There are many groups out there that are willing to help with the financial part.
This image is so disturbing. That’s abuse. Pure and simple.
I agree with all of you, that is dog abuse, I bet animal friends or w/e could help him, but we need him away from his owner.
it’s sad, take this picture DOWN NOW
wow… GG animal abuse!
This site really needs to stop posting so much animal abuse… some pictures are funny and its really the caption that does it for alot of photos… but things like this just make me super angry… I just don’t understand what the creators think is so funny about the constant animal abuse I see on this site…
Animals depend on people for their care… including feeding amounts. Overfeeding your animal is as bad as underfeeding! You put them at risk for heart conditions, join problems, diabetes (which in turn can lead to kidney failure, blindness, and overall lower quality of life), as well as making them plain unhappy!!
As the owner of an obses animal (its a metabolism problem) — I understand the struggle to maintain an appropriate weight w/o starving your pet — it takes alot of work! If you aren’t up to the job what you’re doing is plain animal abuse! I find so little humor in this its not even funny…
Please keep in mind that a lot of photographs of fat animals that circulate the web (especially those that, like this one, appear impossibly fat) are photoshopped. Photoshopped from regular heathly weight animals? Probably not, or they wouldn’t have gotten the idea. No dog owner thinks this is appropriate and anyone who would is not going to have their mind changed by comments on ihah.
Now,
I TINK DIS IS SUFFISHUNT BROCCOLIS.
I had neighbors who had dogs this fat. No matter how I tried to help them to break their habit of putting gravy and cheese on the dogs’ food, they felt the dogs wouldn’t love them as much if they left those items off. In other words, they knew it was bad for the dogs, and they wouldn’t do anything to change it.
Yes, if you’ve got a dog who is failing to thrive, adding high calorie goodies is one thing, but a normal, healthy, happy dog? No way! There are plenty of low calorie snacks that are actually good for dogs. My Danes love cucumber and watermelon.
it’s a LOLRUS!!!!! ROFLLOLOMG
It’s not funny! This dog is extremely overweight! I petition that we petition to make a petition to find the owners email address and send him/her a telling off email!
i sent an email to: ihasahotdog+contactus@gmail.com to ask that this picture be removed. There is nothing lol about it – photoshopped (which I do not believe this is) or not.
All you people who are saying this dog should be taken away from its owner and that its owner should be… among other things… SHOT (WAY harsh, btw) I wonder if you feel the same way about children. After all, a parent is responsible for their child’s care. Should a child be taken away from their parent for the OhEmGee MORTAL SIN of being FAT? Come on people… we have no idea what the circumstances here are. Domesticated animals… just like people, have evolved genetic mutations that cause them to be too heavy no matter WHAT they do.
Yes, there are are irresponsible parents and pet owners out there who just let their child/pet get fat… and they need to be EDUCATED and given a chance to prove themselves before you jump on the freaking ‘take their loved one away!’ bandwagon.
As far as taking the picture down… Hotdogs and/or Burgerz, don’t you dare. Censorship is too slippery a slope. Give in to one demand, and you have to give in to them all. A little controversy is a good thing, if for no other reason than to remind some people that they can’t solve an ugly problem just by ‘demanding’ (arrogant much?) that it be removed. You want to close your eyes and plug your ears and sing ‘lalalalala’? Fine. But don’t impose your standards on the rest of us. Don’t like it? Stop coming here. Period.
~Cheer~ Well said!
Yes, the dog is overweight.
No, we don’t know the circumstance.
If you don’t want to see ugliness in the world, for goodness sake, don’t go to the WWW.
We here on this site are huge animal lovers and yes, it does bother us to see obese dogs/cats and worse yet – children. – and yes, a miniature percentage is caused by a genetic mutations. So why are there so many obese children and animals? It’s not the mutation thing. There are diet dog food, for snacks – use a piece of carrot. My dog is now a little bit overweight, but he has lost 11 lbs and me 72 lbs so far and we are working to lose few more pounds on advice from my dogs vet and my Doctor. I know how it feels to be medical labeled obese. I have been there – and so has my dog. – It sucks, it’s not fun to lose weight, but it is sure worth it. A friend of mine said “you hardly ever see any obese old people” true – it changed my and my dogs eating and exercise habits. My mother told me I was “killing my dog with kindness” by giving him too many treats. You try to think that they want treats – love is what they really want.
That percentage really isn’t as miniature as you think, but you still make a good point about killing them with kindness.
The point I was trying to make is we don’t *know* the exact situation here, so everyone screaming that it’s abuse and that dog needs to get taken away from its owner (and that physical harm should befall that person- WTF?) and whatever else, are going way too far in the name of their own self-righteousness. Until we hear from the owner about that dog’s exact situation, nobody has any right to say anything should happen.
The people upset by this picture are reacting to it being posted on a website that is intended to be FUNNY. We are all aware there are obese children and animals, and sickness and death and on and on and on. We come here for some laughs and chuckles and a break from the ‘ugliness’ of the world. That’s all. You don’t expect to come here and be shocked and/or saddened by what you see. That is what the all negative posts are about. There may certainly be a perfectly fine medical example for this dogs size – but it is not a picture that produces LOL, which is the point ot this site.
You never see any obese old people because they get sick, are told they need lose a bunch of weight instead of getting the right treatment from their doctors, so all they focus on is weight loss. By the time they DIE from their original ailment, they’ve lost all their weight. It’s called size discrimination, and I think everyone’s resposes here to this dog are just the same as their responses to people like me day in and day out. OMG SO FAT HORRIBLE BAD YOU’LL DIE STOP EATING BONBONS!
Just because your diet works for you and your dog doesn’t mean it works for all of us. I work out, eat right, walk my dog, and I’m still fat. I’m also healthier than most skinny people, because I don’t ingest tons of fake sugar and premanufactured food. BTW, a lot of my family is in the medical field ( doctors, nurses, etc ). I am not ignorant to all of the anti-fat propaganda.
My dog is a shih tzu/lhasa mix. She’s not overweight at all according to the vet, but you can exactly put her in a cookie cutter idea of what her weight should be. Like all of us, she’s a mutt. Through genetic diversity and adaptation, our bodies have changed. The definition of obese is that you are in the top 10% of the weight dispersement. Hearing statistics saying that 50% of the popl is obese is redunant and incorrect statistically. As a species, we constantly change. Just like dogs. Evolution didn’t just stop.
poor goggeh…….u shud go for walkies an mebbe no more hotdogs k?
This is not a dog. This is a coffee table with fur.
Agreed, PULL THIS PICTURE!
Regardless of whether the dog’s condition is due to mistreatment or some sort of medical condition (or both), there’s nothing funny about this picture. This feels like an old-fashioned freak show.
This isn’t fun at all…poor dog
the most depressing thing about this picture is the expression on the dogs face. he looks so sad and tortured.. he looks as if he’s thinking of all the things he cannot do anymore… he can’t chase cats or take walks at the park, i’m sure getting up is as far as he’s going.. (or she, sorry) oh the poor dog..how i’d like to take his pain away..:(
i don’t think this picture should be taken off IHAH. if everyone is so upset about it, why not ask to put up a link to the ASPCA or something under the picture? that way if someone sees the picture and defines it as abuse, they can go do something about it. i agree with you all that the dog in this picture looks quite uncomfortable and his situation is deplorable, but the caption is quite funny and the image can be used for education of others.
for everyone commenting that they and their animals used to be overweight, but now they’ve lost the pounds and are healthy:
how would you feel if someone took a picture of you or your pooch when you were overweight, posted it to a site, and then said you should be “shot”? or that it was “abuse”?
what if the picture was taken while you were already working on helping your dog to lose weight? would the threats and accusations help at all?
anyone can take a picture of a dog in the street.
to attack the owner and threaten censorship of a website purely based on assumptions made from a joke is absurd.
I’m amazed no one has suggested the obvious – it actually doesn’t look like obesity at all. It looks like the last stages of renal failure.
Wow, to me, it looks more like a bear than a dog.
hooooooooly crap thats a fat dog
There was a show on Animal Planet called, “Fat Pets.” I believe the owner of this dog should watch it, and take note of the tips given to the fellow fat pet owners. I know it can be difficult to keep a pet in shape. My chocolate lab has a couple of extra lbs on her and I’m constantly looking for ways to get them off. This is a beautiful dog, small or big. But the dog’s life is being shortened by several years. Poor little goggie.
Owners of pets in this conditio do not see anything wrong with their pets, and can get really offended if anyone mentions it.
There was a similar show to ‘Fat Pets’ a year or so ago from England where they highlighted a woman (who – and I not a psychologist – was on ‘medical disability’ and deliberately overfeeds her GSh dog, and throws hissy fits when the groomer complains that she needs three people to lift the dog into the tub. The owner knows that her dog will not live a long life, already has plans to cremate it when it does die and then get another dog and overfeed it to death (sort of like a variation of Munschausen by Proxy).
YES, there are dogs out there with metabolic/health issues dealing with weight, and YES, dogs, like people can and will eat anything that is placed in front of them, but this is really sad.
This looks like a rescue dog we had! Her name was Pooh Bear and she was severely neglected by her owner… tied out and thrown food and never ever moved! When she was rescued she was covered in crap from not even being able to move.
This is a sad picture….
