Interesting. Springers should have longer ears with more rounded tips, and semi-curly hair, whereas Brittanys have triangular ears and a slightly wavy coat.

Well Brittanys have the freckles too, but yes, they do look much different than any Springer Spaniels, Welsh or English or anything you could come up with.

When I was growing up I owned a Brittany mix and two of my neighbors bred Brittanys but it was years, years and years and years, before I could tell breed apart from springers reliably. They have similar colors frequently (especially when you start dealing with the French Brittanys) I can understand why someone might make the mistake. The skull and muzzle shape is the easiest clue imo. That, ears and coat length/texture.

You mean a Welsh Springer Spaniel? Those have much longer ears and darker eyes. Brittanys (formerly Brittany Spaniel) have more amber eyes and the ruddy nose is another giveaway.

Welshies have heads that remind me of Basset Hounds, except without the droop and with shorter ears. They also have longer hair than a Brittany and freckles typical of many spaniels.
